Al Koch is an AlixPartners Vice Chairman and Managing Director. He previously served as the CEO of AlixPartners. Al was formerly the managing partner at Ernst & Young in the firm’s Detroit office. For the past 15 years, Al has focused exclusively on major client assignments and has led a wide range of successful restructuring engagements, including:
Serving as CEO of Motors Liquidation (formerly General Motors) and serving as CRO of General Motors in the largest industrial Chapter 11 filing in US history.
Acting as chief financial officer of Kmart Corporation during the company’s Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceeding
Participating as a member of the AlixPartners team that restructured Eastman Kodak Company
Serving as president and CEO of Handleman Company
Serving as CEO and board member of Polar Corporation
Serving as CEO of Champion Enterprises, a NYSE manufacturer and retailer of factory-built housing
Serving as CFO of Oxford Health Plans
Al holds a Bachelor of Science in accounting and an honorary Doctor of Business Administration from Elizabethtown College in Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania. He is a certified public accountant and won the Elijah Watt Sells Award Gold Medal for attaining highest scores in the U.S. on the Uniform CPA Examination. Al also is a member of the Turnaround Management Association’s Hall of Fame. He was a member of the board of directors of publicly held SPX Corporation and served on the company’s audit and compensation committees. He also served as chairman of privately owned Polar Corporation.
