Head of Programme Foreign Relations at the Mercator Institute for China Studies (MERICS)
Mikko Huotari (PhD) heads the research program on Geoeconomics and International Security at the Mercator Institute for China Studies (MERICS) in Berlin. His research focuses on China’s foreign policy, China-Europe relations and regional order in Asia. He has published extensively on China’s global investment strategy, China’s role in global security and in global governance. Before joining MERICS, he taught International Political Economy and Chinese Foreign Policy at the University of Freiburg and worked on policy-oriented China research at the German-Chinese Law Institute in Nanjing, the German Embassy in Beijing and the German Council on Foreign Relations (DGAP) in Berlin.
The Mercator Institute for China Studies (MERICS) is a Stiftung Mercator initiative. Established in 2013, MERICS is one of the largest and leading independent China-focused think tanks worldwide.
