Chief Commercial Officer at Cambridge Consultants
Richard joined Cambridge Consultants in 2003 to lead its Wireless Division for 10 years, before joining the board to run the company’s commercial operations through a period in which the company doubled in size. Cambridge Consultants is widely recognised as one of the founders of the Cambridge hi-tech cluster, Europe’s equivalent of Silicon Valley, and creates technology breakthroughs for its clients worldwide.
Prior to Cambridge Consultants, Richard started his career as a Radio Frequency design engineer in the days of analogue mobile phones, before assuming further technical, program and general management roles. This culminated in him running the Radio Systems group of Tality Inc., the design services arm of Cadence Design Systems, developing advanced wireless technology for clients globally.
With a career focussed in the high technology sector, Richard’s work now centres around advanced innovation, global expansion and technology start-up and spin-out opportunities.
Cambridge Consultants was established in 1960 and is widely recognised as a ‘founding father’ of the Cambridge Phenomenon – Europe’s leading high-tech cluster.
The company was born out of the vision of three Cambridge University graduates that wanted to “put the brains of Cambridge University at the disposal of the problems of British industry”. We’ve evolved substantially since then, attracting the best talent from around the world to form our global team of engineers and scientists. Together, this expertise enables us to develop breakthrough products and services for our clients with greater market success, speed to market and lower risk.
Many of the high-tech companies within the Cambridge cluster can trace their roots back to Cambridge Consultants. This includes over 20 spin-out companies, of which 3 have been amongst Cambridge’s >$1Bn capitalisation firms – Cambridge Silicon Radio (CSR), Xaar and Domino.
With offices in Asia, Europe and USA, we serve clients internationally, delivering solutions to the world’s toughest technology challenges. However, whilst remaining loyal to our heritage, our ability to innovate continuously is what differentiates us.
Our varied mix of skills and industry expertise creates a unique melting pot of innovation. We specialise in the consumer, industrial, energy, medical and telecommunications markets and increasingly find innovation occurring in the intersection of these markets.
Cambridge Consultants is part of the Altran Group, a global leader in engineering and R&D services with a revenue of €2.1bn in 2016 and over 30,000 employees.
